De one with The Curse Of The Golden Flower

Heavy rain day

Early morning my plans for jog was ruined by the heavy rain. Well, an irony. What a good weather to laze in bed. Yet, undesirable for plans which have been made earlier for better use.

For ages, I've wondered why time in the late morning pass by so quickly. Before I knew it, it was afternoon and I had to get prepared to meet Chin Yu.

All thanks to the downpour, I end up buying a new umbrella from Espirit at Plaza Singapura as I forgotten to bring one from home. Chin Yu brought an umbrella. Unfortunately, his was 'barely' enough for himself. Hah. I needed one badly to shelter me from PS to The Cathay. Thus, I decided to buy one Khaki-coloured which I was satisfied with (cost me $21.90, thank god Espirit was having 10% sales). This was the labour of having searched the entire PS for stores in which umbrellas were available. Omg. Giodano and HangTen sells them. Disappointingly, the colours were not to my likely.

We arrived late at the Cathay. By the time we settled down, the Curse of the Golden Flower was already showing for what I think, approximately 10 minutes ago. Before watching this epic movie, hearsay it's reviewed to be pretty lousy. Against all odds, I watched it anyway. Majorly because it's my idol's second film (in which he's in the main cast).

I'm not going to say much about the story this time. However, I've got to say I've realised Jay Chou's dialogue were all pretty short. And the way he spoke still reflected a tone of "shyness". However, his fighting scenes were superb! I'm amazed. All in all, he played the only good and highly fillial "Prince Jie" in the movie.

There were scenes in which Gong Li, who played the empress, beared some resemblance to Hatsumono in Memoirs of Geisha. Hmmm.. looks like nowadays directors are increasingly having women who are ruthless. Oops! First. Memoirs of Geisha..then Ziyi Zhang in Banquet..now this..

As usual, Zhou Yun Fat's fiercely fantastic in his Emperor role. Love the scene in the end where he sort of throw back his golden robe and that scene where his long hair scatter loose after he slapped his youngest son. There was really something in his gaze throughout the entire show.

Well, what can I say.. the movie's a tragedy. It was a collection of love, incest relationship, adultery, undying fillial piety, breaking out of shameful secrets, treachery. Personally, I felt the story itself outweighted the fighting effects (something's new: Rope and sickles, and Grand Sabre) and the worth-mentioning elaborated costumes (shimmering with gold and silver).

The rain continued even as we went to town to have Pepper Lunch for dinner. (Hah! pepper "Lunch" for "Dinner": Resturant's name ironical to purpose) and went walking around. I finally got the chance to browse and taste Japanese "man tou". Yipee!! Shokoi Ne!

I don't know why in my mind I kept thinking that Chin Yu needs to go home early. Haha. Apparantly, it's rainning so he didn't have to rush home to get prepared for his roller hockey (which is cancelled).

The rain... the unwanted obligation to buy a new umbrella... Jay Chou and the Curse of the Golden Flower... Pepper lunch... Japanese "man tou"... A couldn't have been better day ;P
